According to a recent report by Efi, the largest port in the Haitian capital, Port au Prince, has once again become a target of armed bandits. These bandits openly looted dozens of containers in the port, looted all their items, and plunged the entire port into chaos.
Videos circulating on social media show hundreds of criminals recklessly opening containers and looting various items, creating a shocking scene. In addition, according to Reuters citing UNICEF, one out of 17 aid containers was looted, and another 260 containers containing aid were also controlled by armed groups.
UNICEF strongly condemns this, pointing out that these looted containers contain essential items for children's survival, including resuscitators, early childhood development education supplies, water supply equipment, etc., which undoubtedly adds insult to injury to Haiti's already collapsed health system. UNICEF Representative to Haiti, Bruno Metz, calls for an immediate end to the looting of essential items for children's survival and to ensure the safety of humanitarian access, otherwise the health crisis will further intensify. He warned, "We are witnessing a humanitarian disaster and there is very little time left to turn the situation around. If violence does not stop and logistics channels are not reopened, the consequences will be unimaginable."
